GLL Game Cancellation Policy
● The GLL President is responsible for monitoring the weather on game days. If the President is not available, either the Baseball or Softball Vice President will be responsible to monitor.
● If weather is a concern the President will work with the Head Groundskeeper, Baseball and Softball Vice Presidents to determine if games will be played.
● If games are canceled, GLL will send communication via email by 4:30 PM Monday through Friday and 8:30 AM on Saturdays.
● If weather becomes an issue after 4:30 PM Monday through Friday or 8:30 AM on Saturdays, the Field Director is responsible for monitoring the weather and contacting the President and/or Vice Presidents of Baseball & Softball to determine if games will be played or need to be canceled.
● If severe weather occurs or is imminent during games, the Field Director has the authority to cancel games for the remainder of the night.
● If games are canceled, the fields are considered closed and no practices may occur.
● If an inning cannot be completed due to weather or darkness and the game has gone 4 innings or 3 ½, if the home team is leading (Majors and below), 5 innings or 4 ½, if the home team is leading (above Majors), the game is complete and score reverts back to the last complete inning.
● All rescheduled games will be completed by the Scheduling Director within three days.
● GLL always wants to get the games in, even if it means having a delay of 1/2 – 1 hour.
Here are a few reasons why games could be canceled or delayed and the policy regarding each:
o Severe Weather Watches/Warnings
▪ If there is a tornado warning or watch within one hour of game time, all games will be canceled.
▪ If there is a thunderstorm warning within one hour of game time, all games will be canceled.
▪ If a thunderstorm watch is in effect, games will proceed as scheduled.
▪ If games are canceled due to the above, the concession stand will close also.
o Rain
▪ If it is raining and the fields are unplayable, the games will be canceled.
▪ If a light rain is falling, games will probably be played unless field conditions are affected.
▪ If a heavier rain is falling and fields are in a condition to play, a delay may be called by the field director for up to 1 hour. Players can wait out the delay in dugouts, vehicles, or in the back room of the concession stand.
o Lightning
▪ If a lightning strike is sighted, heard, or picked up with our strike indicator within 3 miles, all games will be delayed 20 minutes for each lightning strike, with a maximum delay of 1 hour. Players are asked to wait out the delay in dugouts, vehicles, or in the back room of the concession stand. The concession sales counter will close.
o Temperature
▪ If the temperature is below 40 degrees.
▪ If the “Feels Like” temperature / wind chill is below 40 degrees.
▪ If the temperature is above 95 degrees.
▪ If the “Feels Like” temperature is above 95 degrees.
o Field Conditions
▪ If there is standing water.
▪ If the fields are saturated and muddy.
▪ If there is not enough time to prep the fields before scheduled games.
o Darkness
▪ Lights will be turned on when the field director deems it is too dark to play.
▪ If it's deemed too dark to play, any games being played on fields without lights will be immediately concluded.
▪ If a game is being played on a field without lights and a comparable field with lights is open, when darkness is declared, the game may be moved to the lighted field for completion.
▪ For games being played on fields with lights, no inning will begin after 10:00 PM.
